Why Should Filler Go on the First Day of a Seoul Trip? Swelling, Settling and Planning Your Flight Home

A scene related to the topic

If you are planning filler in Seoul, book it for the first day or two of your trip. Hyaluronic acid filler doesn’t look finished when you leave the clinic. It swells in the first few days, can bruise, and then softens into its final shape over roughly two weeks. If you have it on day one, any swelling has had time to go down, a doctor can look at the result while you are still in the city, and you have days left for a small adjustment or, if needed, dissolving. Filler on your last afternoon means you fly home with a face that hasn’t settled, and nobody at the clinic gets to check it.

At MIO Clinic, this isn’t just general advice. MIO’s own menu marks every filler line, by area and in both the imported and domestic tiers, as a first-day treatment. Skin boosters like Rejuran Healer and JUVELOOK Skin Booster are marked last-day. The rest of this guide covers why the two groups land at opposite ends of a trip and how to build your schedule around that.

What actually happens to filler in the first two weeks?

Filler goes through three stages, and the stages are what make timing important.

  • Day 0–3: swelling. The needle or cannula and the gel itself cause tissue swelling. Lips usually swell the most, and the under-eye area can puff noticeably. In many people the swelling is biggest on day one or day two, not right after the session.
  • Day 2–7: bruising and tenderness. Not everyone bruises, but small bruises at injection points are common. They can take about a week to fade. Concealer usually covers them after the first day or two.
  • Day 7–14: settling. Hyaluronic acid draws in water and integrates with the tissue, so the shape you see at the two-week mark is closer to the real result than what you see on day one.

How long each stage lasts varies from person to person, and from area to area on the same person. Some people barely swell. Others look clearly “done” for several days. Nobody can tell you in advance which group you’ll be in.

Why do clinics put filler at the start of a trip?

They do it for three reasons.

The worst swelling is behind you before you leave. If you have filler on day one of a seven-day trip, the peak swelling falls on days one to three, and you fly home looking close to normal. If you have it on day six, you could be at the peak during the flight and when you land.

Someone can check the result in person. A slight asymmetry or a small lump is much easier to judge and fix when the patient is sitting in the chair. Once you’re home, a phone photo is all the clinic has to go on.

There’s time left to correct things. A touch-up after things settle, or dissolving a section that didn’t sit right, both take time. Hyaluronidase, the enzyme that breaks down HA filler, is also marked first-day on MIO’s menu. It sometimes needs a second session after some days, which only fits if you’re still in Seoul. For how that works, see our guide to dissolving filler with hyaluronidase.

Why are skin boosters booked at the end instead?

Skin boosters go in as many tiny injections across the face. That usually leaves small raised bumps that fade within a day or two, but the goal is gradual skin quality, not shape. There’s usually nothing to adjust afterward. Putting them at the end means you spend less of your trip with bumpy skin.

MIO’s menu reflects this: Rejuran Healer, JUVELOOK Skin Booster, Skin Botox and Re2O are all marked last-day. JUVELOOK Volume and Radiesse, which add volume like filler but are a different category, carry no trip-timing constraint on MIO’s menu. So “filler early, boosters late” applies to hyaluronic acid filler specifically, not to every injectable.

If you’re combining treatments on one trip, a common schedule is:

Trip stageWhat fits hereWhy
Day 1–2Filler, wrinkle botox, consultationSwelling settles; botox also takes days to work
Middle daysCheck-in, adjustment or dissolving if neededDoctor sees the settled result in person
Last 1–2 daysSkin boosters, toning lasersBumps or redness fade fast; nothing left to adjust

Wrinkle botox is also marked first-day on MIO’s menu. It takes a few days to start working, so having it early lets you see the effect before you go home.

How does filler timing affect your flight home?

Flying after filler is generally not a problem once the first days have passed. Most of the concern is about comfort and timing, not danger. A long flight with dry cabin air, salty food and little movement can make lingering swelling a bit more noticeable, and that is one more reason to have the peak swelling happen before you board.

Things to plan around:

  • Leave at least three to four days between filler and your departure flight. This is a practical buffer, not a medical cutoff. A week is better if your trip is long enough.
  • Avoid alcohol, saunas, hot baths and hard workouts for the first day or two. All of them can increase swelling and bruising. Your doctor will give you specific instructions.
  • Avoid pressing or massaging the treated area unless you’re told to. Don’t schedule a facial or massage right after filler.

If you’re thinking about filler on the last day because that’s when you have free time, that’s usually a sign to move it earlier or leave it for another trip.

What if you have a wedding, photoshoot or important event?

Plan for the event to fall after the settling period, not inside it. A rough rule many people use is at least two weeks between filler and anything that will be photographed. That gives time for swelling, bruising and a possible touch-up.

If the event is in Seoul during your trip, filler on day one of a five-day trip is risky for event photos. Either lengthen the trip, have filler on a previous visit, or skip filler this time and pick something with less visible downtime.

Who should not plan filler for this trip at all?

Filler may not be a good fit, or may need a different plan, if:

  • you’re pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • you have an active skin infection, cold sore or inflammation in the treatment area;
  • you take blood thinners or supplements that raise bruising risk (tell the doctor; don’t stop medication on your own);
  • your trip is so short that filler would land within a day or two of your flight;
  • you have a big, photographed event in the next week or two.

It’s also worth knowing the rare but serious risks. Filler can, uncommonly, block a blood vessel. Warning signs include skin turning pale or mottled, severe or increasing pain, or color changes spreading beyond the injection site. These need immediate contact with the clinic, which is another reason to be close by in the days after treatment. Lumps, asymmetry and prolonged swelling are more common and usually manageable, especially when you’re still in the same city as the doctor.

What does filler cost at MIO, and how does that fit a first-day booking?

MIO prices filler per area, with two tiers for each: imported lines (Juvéderm, Restylane, Belotero) and a Domestic line. Some examples as published at the time of writing, excluding VAT (USD is approximate):

  • Nose Filler: KRW 399,000 (about $285) imported / KRW 159,000 (about $114) Domestic
  • Lip Filler: KRW 349,000 (about $250) imported / KRW 99,000 (about $71) Domestic
  • Chin Filler: KRW 299,000 (about $214) imported / KRW 99,000 (about $71) Domestic
  • Under-Eye Filler (Belotero Soft): KRW 349,000 (about $250)
  • Lip Filler + Corner-of-Mouth Botox (Domestic): KRW 109,000 (about $78)
  • Hyaluronidase (filler originally done at MIO): KRW 50,000 (about $36); filler from another clinic: KRW 100,000 (about $71)

Choosing a specific doctor adds KRW 100,000 (about $71). How much product an area needs is decided at consultation, so the final amount can’t be quoted ahead of time. Most filler lines on MIO’s menu use numbing; the one exception listed is Domestic Chin Filler, which is marked as a brief sting instead. Leave some extra time in your day-one booking for numbing to take effect. For how the areas and tiers compare, see filler by area: nose, lips, chin, under-eye and nasolabial.

How does a first-day consultation work?

At MIO, filler starts with an assessment. The clinic uses detailed clinical photography and AI-assisted facial analysis to look at facial structure and proportions before the doctor plans the treatment. The analysis doesn’t make the decision; it gives the doctor measured information to work from. MIO lists the skin analysis scan as having no extra charge.

Filler at MIO is part of the main work of doctors who focus on it. The medical director, Jung Guhyun, lists botox, filler, lifting, skin boosters and lasers as his focus, and Shin Seungyong’s focus includes filler, contouring and lifting. Both see patients in English. MIO’s doctors are experienced clinicians, and at consultation you can ask which doctor handles filler for the area you’re interested in.

The photos from day one are also useful later. Ask for your before photos and a note of the product and area treated, so you or a doctor at home can compare. Our guide to treatment records and before photos covers what to ask for.

How do you schedule it around a short trip?

If you only have a few days, arrive and go to the clinic. Book filler for your arrival day or the morning after, plan a follow-up a few days later, and save skin boosters or lasers for the end. MIO is open on Sundays too, and on Mondays and Fridays it stays open into the evening, so a weekend arrival or a late flight in doesn’t have to cost you your first-day slot.

Above all, don’t treat filler as something to fit in at the end of a trip. Give it the most time of anything you book, and the rest of the schedule falls into place around it.

FAQ

How soon after filler can I fly? Flying isn’t usually prohibited after the first day, but give swelling a few days to go down before a long flight. A gap of three to four days is a practical minimum and a week is more comfortable. Follow your doctor’s specific aftercare.

How long does filler swelling last? Swelling is usually most visible in the first two to three days, bruising can take about a week to fade, and the result settles over roughly two weeks. Lips and under-eyes tend to swell the most, and the timeline varies by person.

Can I have filler and skin boosters on the same trip? Yes. Have filler at the start and skin boosters near the end. On MIO’s menu, filler is marked first-day and skin boosters like Rejuran Healer and JUVELOOK Skin Booster are marked last-day.

What if I’m not happy with the filler before I fly home? If you had filler early in your trip, there’s time to go back. A small adjustment or dissolving with hyaluronidase is possible while you’re still in Seoul. Hyaluronidase is also marked as a first-day treatment at MIO because it can need a follow-up session.

Does MIO’s filler price include VAT? No. MIO’s published prices exclude VAT, choosing a specific doctor adds KRW 100,000, and the amount needed for each area is decided at consultation.
