In Seoul, laser hair removal is usually priced per body area, per session. Menus often split men’s and women’s prices, and the men’s price is usually higher for the same area. Small areas like the underarm or upper lip can cost as little as KRW 10,000 (about $7) per session. Large areas like the thighs can cost KRW 80,000 to 150,000 (about $57 to $107). Very few areas come as a package. Hair removal also takes a series of sessions spaced weeks apart, so one trip gets you a start, not a finished result. The sections below explain how the menu is organized, why the men’s and women’s columns differ, and how multi-session passes are usually set up. The examples come from MIO Clinic’s published menu.
A note on the numbers: every MIO price quoted here is as published at the time of writing and excludes VAT. If you ask for a specific doctor, MIO adds KRW 100,000. USD figures are rough conversions at about KRW 1,400 to the dollar, so check the current rate.
How is a hair removal menu organized in a Seoul clinic?
Most Seoul menus list hair removal as one line per body area, with a price for a single session. They don’t quote a single “full treatment” price. You add up the areas you want, and each visit is billed again.
The areas usually fall into three groups:
- Small spot areas. Underarm, upper lip, between the eyebrows, chin tip, hands, feet. These are often priced “per 1 area,” and one price covers any one of them.
- Face and neck zones. Full face, lower face or beard area, hairline, back of the neck.
- Limb and body zones. Full arm, lower arm, thigh, calf.
MIO’s menu follows this pattern. For example, one line covers the underarm, upper lip, between the eyebrows or the chin tip “(1 Area).” You pick one of the four, and a second area is a second charge.
If you’re comparing clinics, check whether a quote is per area or per zone group, and per session or per course. Two quotes that look similar can be counting very different things. What does each body area cost at MIO Clinic?
Here is MIO’s published per-session hair removal pricing, KRW excluding VAT, with rough USD equivalents:

The back of the neck and the hands and feet are listed once, with no gender split. In the table they show the same price in both columns.
Two things are worth noticing. The face rows aren’t a like-for-like comparison: the women’s line is “full facial,” while the men’s line is “full lower face,” which is the beard area. And the thigh has the biggest gap on the menu. The men’s price is almost double the women’s.
Why do men and women pay different prices for the same area?
Split pricing reflects a difference in the typical work involved, not a difference in the service. MIO’s menu doesn’t explain its reasoning line by line. The general reasons clinics price this way are:
- Hair density and thickness. Male body and facial hair is often coarser and denser. Covering it can take more passes, more time, and sometimes more energy, especially on the legs and arms.
- Surface area. Men’s limbs are often larger on average, so the same named area covers more skin.
- Comfort and settings. Coarse, dark hair takes up more of the laser’s energy, so it tends to sting more. The clinician may need to work more slowly or adjust settings.
Men don’t pay more everywhere. On MIO’s menu the women’s hairline (KRW 40,000) costs more than the men’s (KRW 30,000). The menu doesn’t say why. A reasonable guess is that the zone is defined differently: a women’s hairline session may cover a longer or more detailed shaping line around the forehead and temples. That is a guess, so ask at your consultation what exactly each line covers. The same applies to any area where you aren’t sure where the boundaries fall.
These are averages. If your hair is finer or sparser than usual for your sex, the menu price won’t come down, but you may find that fewer sessions do the job.
How are multi-session passes usually structured?
Laser hair removal targets hair while it’s actively growing. At any moment only part of your hair is in that phase, so it takes a series of sessions to catch most follicles at the right time. Many people need somewhere in the range of five to eight sessions for a clear reduction. Coarse beard hair or hormonally driven growth can take more, and occasional top-ups are common afterward. Facial sessions are often spaced about four weeks apart, and body areas often six to eight weeks, but your clinician sets the schedule.
Because of this, clinics sometimes sell passes: a fixed number of sessions for one area, paid up front, usually at a lower per-session price than booking one at a time. MIO’s published menu has one such pass:
- Men’s Full Lower Face Hair Removal Package (12 Sessions): KRW 400,000 (~$286), excluding VAT. Twelve single sessions at KRW 40,000 would add up to KRW 480,000 (~$343). That works out to roughly KRW 33,300 per session inside the package.
- (1-Year Pass Option) Moisturizing & Soothing Care: KRW 99,000 (~$71), excluding VAT. The menu lists it as an option attached to a one-year pass. It doesn’t describe exactly what’s included or how many visits it covers, so ask before you add it.
Every other area on MIO’s menu is priced per session. If you want several sessions on your legs or underarms, you pay each time you come in.
Before you commit to any pass at any clinic, ask:
- How many sessions, and within what time window? A pass that expires in a year only helps if you can actually return that often.
- Can unused sessions be refunded or transferred? Policies vary, and they matter a lot if you live abroad.
- What if the area needs more sessions than the pass includes? Top-ups are usually billed per session.
- Does the pass price include VAT? At MIO it doesn’t. Menu prices exclude VAT.
Can you finish hair removal on a single trip to Seoul?
No. One session on a trip is a start, and the result will be partial and temporary. Some hair sheds in the weeks afterward, and the next growth cycle brings some of it back. A visible, longer-lasting reduction needs the full series.
This matters for pricing. A 12-session pass is designed for people who can come back roughly once a month, such as residents, frequent business travelers, or people staying in Seoul for months. On a one-off trip, buying single sessions is usually more honest than prepaying for visits you won’t use. The alternative is to start in Seoul and continue with a provider at home.
On timing within your trip, MIO lists hair removal with no trip-timing constraint. It can go on the first day, the last day, or anywhere in between. Expect some redness for a few hours, and avoid strong sun exposure on the treated skin afterward.
What does it feel like, and what are the risks?
MIO’s menu marks hair removal as “sting”. That means a brief stinging sensation with each pulse, without numbing cream. Most people describe it as a rubber-band snap or a quick hot prick. Coarse, dense hair (beard, men’s legs) and thin-skinned spots (upper lip) usually sting more.
Common, expected effects:
- Redness and small bumps around the follicles for a few hours to a day or two.
- Mild swelling in sensitive areas.
Less common, and worth knowing about:
- Temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, more likely on tanned or deeper skin tones if settings aren’t matched carefully.
- Blistering or superficial burns, which are uncommon with appropriate settings.
- Rarely, paradoxical increased hair growth near treated areas.
How long results last varies. Many people get a long-lasting reduction in the areas that respond, but no one can promise permanent, complete removal. Some regrowth, usually finer, is common. Hormonal changes can bring new growth over time.
Who is not a good candidate?
Lasers work by targeting pigment in the hair. They don’t work well, or at all, on:
- White, grey, very light blond or red hair. There’s too little pigment to target.
- Freshly tanned skin. Treatment is usually postponed until the tan fades, to lower the risk of pigment changes.
Tell the clinician if you:
- Are pregnant (treatment is commonly postponed).
- Take medications that increase light sensitivity, or have recently taken isotretinoin.
- Have a history of keloids, active infection, or irritation in the area.
- Have a hormonal condition that drives hair growth, such as PCOS. Laser can still help, but expect more sessions and ongoing maintenance.
Before the session, you’ll usually be asked to shave the area rather than wax, pluck or thread it for several weeks beforehand. The laser needs the root in place to work. Follow the instructions the clinic gives you.
Combining hair removal with other treatments on the same menu
Some menus bundle hair removal with a related treatment. MIO lists Underarm Hair Removal + Hyperhidrosis Botox 100u (Domestic) at KRW 99,000 (~$71), excluding VAT. It targets both underarm hair and excessive sweating in one visit. Unlike hair removal on its own, the menu marks this combination as requiring numbing, so allow extra time for the numbing cream. It makes sense if both issues bother you. If only one does, book only that one.

Working out your own total
To estimate a realistic cost:
- List the areas you want, and use the column for your sex where the menu splits them.
- Add up one session’s cost across those areas.
- Multiply by the number of sessions you can realistically attend. Plan for several, not one.
- Add VAT, since the menu prices exclude it.
- Add KRW 100,000 per visit if you want to choose a specific doctor at MIO.
For example, a woman booking underarm and upper lip would pay KRW 20,000 (~$14) per session before VAT, since each is a separate “1 area” charge. A man booking full arms and thighs would pay KRW 230,000 (~$164) per session before VAT. The session count is what really drives the total, so ask the clinician how many sessions your hair type is likely to need before you budget.
