MIO Clinic publishes a set of frequently asked questions on its Korean site. The English version of that page currently says it is coming soon, which is not much use if you are planning a trip from abroad. So here are those ten answers in English, taken from the clinic’s own Korean FAQ page rather than written by us.
A note on transparency: this is the official English journal of MIO Clinic, so MIO is our own clinic and this is not an independent review. These are the clinic’s answers, rendered into English as faithfully as we can. Nothing here is medical advice, and what applies to your skin is decided by a doctor looking at it, not by a page.
Booking and the visit itself
Can I be seen the same day without an appointment?
Sometimes, yes. Walk-in consultations are possible, but booked patients are seen first, so the wait can be long and the treatment you wanted may not be available that day. Weekends and weekday evenings are the times worth checking before you travel to the clinic.
How long does a visit take, from consultation to treatment?
Usually about 30 minutes to an hour and a half. A straightforward injectable is at the short end. A laser or lifting treatment that needs numbing cream can run past an hour once the waiting time for the cream is included. The actual time depends on the treatment and how busy the clinic is that day.
Can I ask for a specific doctor?
Yes, you can request a specific doctor when you book. There may be an additional fee for requesting a particular doctor, and their schedule may not match the date and time you wanted. Say who you would like when you book and the clinic will tell you what is available.
During the treatment
How much does Ultherapy hurt, and is anaesthetic used?
There can be a stinging or deep aching sensation during the treatment. Numbing cream is generally applied first, and if you are sensitive to pain the clinic can talk you through additional ways to manage it. How much it hurts varies by treatment area and by person.
Afterwards: what is normal and for how long
How long does swelling last after Rejuran?
The small raised bumps and swelling usually last about one to three days. If your skin is thin or reactive, redness or small bruises can linger a few days longer. On the day itself, avoid rubbing the skin hard, saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise.
How many pico toning sessions are needed for melasma and pigmentation?
Pico toning is normally done as a series spaced two to four weeks apart, with the change appearing gradually. How many sessions you need depends on how deep and how widespread the pigmentation is and on your skin overall. The number and spacing are decided after a doctor looks at your skin.
Can I wear makeup and go about my day straight after InMode?
In most cases yes, you can return to normal activity immediately. There may be redness or a feeling of heat right afterwards, and some areas can bruise or feel tender. If your skin is comfortable, light makeup is usually fine, but avoid saunas and strenuous exercise that day.
How long should I avoid alcohol and exercise after filler?
Usually about two to three days. Alcohol and exercise increase blood flow, which can make swelling and bruising worse. It is also worth avoiding saunas and jjimjilbang, or anything that keeps you at a high temperature for a long stretch, for a few days.
Specific concerns
Which treatments are used most for acne scarring?
It depends on the shape and depth of the scar. Indented scars may be approached with fractional laser, needle-based radiofrequency or subcision. Red marks and pigmentation left behind are sometimes treated alongside with pigment or vascular lasers. The clinic looks at the skin first, then combines whichever treatments are needed into a plan.
After a mole or wart is removed, how long do I keep the healing tape on?
Commonly around five to seven days, though it varies with the size and depth of what was removed. If there is a lot of weeping or the tape lifts, replace it with a fresh one, and once the wound has healed, be thorough about sun protection.
What is still not published
Two things are worth naming, because a FAQ can look more complete than it is. These answers cover what a treatment feels like and how long the after-effects usually last. They do not set out what happens if a result is not what you discussed, whether a correction is possible, or how long after a treatment you can still raise a problem. No page on the clinic site states that in any language we can read, so ask directly at the consultation and get the answer in writing.
Prices are a separate matter and are published: the price list carries the current rate for each treatment. Event rates change, so confirm the figure that applies on the day you book rather than relying on a number from an article.
